Llucmajor declares a health emergency to activate urgent waste collection

PalmLlucmajor has activated the health emergency with the aim of launching the urgent collection of waste due to its accumulation in public spaces. The motion, which was unanimously approved in the City Council's plenary session, had been presented by PSIB and PSOE, MÉS per Llucmajor, Llibertat Llucmajor and S'Ull.
As these parties reported in a joint statement, the declaration of the health emergency will allow for urgent hiring to reinforce the waste collection service provided by the concessionaire FCC, as well as contracting the necessary disinfection services to resolve the situation "in the shortest possible time".
The socialist party pointed out that the declaration of the health emergency is a response to the accumulation of waste in the streets, which, they argued, is causing bad smells, as well as the proliferation of insects and rodents.
During the debate in the plenary session, the groups that defended the initiative attributed this situation to the management of the government team led by the mayor, Xisca Lascolas, and called for the adoption of urgent measures to restore normality in the municipality.
In this regard, the spokesperson for the PSIB, Jaume J. Oliver, assured that the motion seeks "solutions" and not "culprits" for the waste accumulation problem, while at the same time calling on the mayor to declare a health emergency to accelerate the adoption of measures.
For their part, the spokesperson for Llibertat Llucmajor, Alexandro Gaffar, questioned the reinforcement of the collection service launched by the government team, considering that it did not have the necessary contractual coverage.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for MÉS per Llucmajor, Oriol Gómez, and the spokesperson for S'Ull, Claudia Fallemann, agreed in calling for the declaration of a health emergency and the adoption of urgent measures to resolve the waste accumulation.
The motion was approved with the support of all groups in the plenary session, including PP, ASI and Vox. According to the PSIB, the representatives of these parties did not disclose the sense of their vote during the debate and supported the initiative in the final vote.
