The Government announces new aid, but only for rents up to 900 euros.

PalmThe Government published this Thursday the call for rental assistance for this year. The total amount is 9.3 million euros and will consist of a maximum contribution of 3,000 euros per year per home, 50% of the monthly rent. However, the rule only applies to rentals of a maximum of 900 euros per month. This figure currently represents 0.4% in Mallorca. Of the 2,911 rental listings published on the island, only 12 are for 900 euros or less, and of these, only two are located in Palma.

The €900 limit is established in the 2022-2025 State Housing Plan. In a press release, the Government insisted that it has repeatedly requested that the Ministry of Housing raise this limit in the future 2026-2030 plan to adjust it to market conditions. Although the State Housing Law allows for a rent cap, President Marga Prohens refuses to implement it.

These benefits are intended for tenants with an annual household income of €25,200 or less. This limit is increased in specific cases: up to 33,600 euros for large families in the general category, people with disabilities under 33%, or victims of terrorism, and up to 42,000 euros for large families in the special category, people with disabilities equal to or greater than 33%, or victims of gender-based violence.

Funding predominantly from the State

Of the total allocation, €7.1 million comes from state funds under the State Housing Plan, and €2.2 million from the community's own funds. Beneficiaries must have a rental contract, live in the home, meet income limits, and have no outstanding payments. Furthermore, the aid is incompatible with other rental subsidies, except in some exceptional cases. Interested parties can begin applying for the subsidy starting November 14, 2025, through official government channels.
